As both a horticulturist and an investor, Dane is providing the nursery, landscape and orchard industry retirement strategies through real estate.
Dane in his childhood had been turned down housing when the landlord saw him and told his parents "We do not take children". Dane said: "When I grow up I will be the landlord".
After working at Orange County Nursery for 20.5 years and becoming their tree expert as a Certified Arborist, he went on to become a plant broker and consultant with Dane S. Shota & Associates. He was not an owner of Orange County Nursery so he bought rental houses as investments for retirement. Some of his tenants were families with children. After his tenants, a couple in North Las Vegas house had been thrown in jail, he turned this around by doing a 1031 exchange and purchased a tenants-in-common commercial building in Houston, Texas. This first investment was a security-based program. With two rental houses in Norwalk, California he purchased two tenant-in-common buildings one in Wichita, Kansas and another in Omaha, Nebraska. In his 401K he also owns raw land in Frisco, Texas and money from the stock market he cashed out and bought raw land in Casa Grande, AZ.
As a Certified Arborist, Dane is a guest speaker for California Polytechnic University, Pomona, California for a landscape class with the topic titled "Trouble Shooting In The Landscape".
Dane was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and raised in California from 9 months old. He and his wife have moved to Huntington Beach, CA from Whittier, CA where they are raising their family. Dane has provided millions of trees in California throughout his career. He is known especially in Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties in the nursery industry. With his Arborist career he saves trees and makes trees safe for us in the landscape.
By going into commercial property Dane's passive income increased three to four times more than owning single family homes as rentals. He does not have to deal with tenants or liability and has more time to spend with his family.
Dane believes if commercial and residential real estate can change his life, that it can also change other people’s lives for the best. He does his best to spread the word.
In 2009 Dane is with Coldwell Banker Residential/Commercial in Huntington Beach.
Also helping nurserymen with their entitlements on their land and marketing nurseries.
If you know anyone wanting a house whether it is for their home or rental he can help.
Last time he bought was in the last recession which was my house he lives in. "Best time to buy is in the recession for real estate". If there is anyone you know who want to buy or sell a house regardless of having any equity he can help.
